Svelta - The new Mountain Running and Cycling Championship in Kythera

The schedule, the dates, the routes.

The bike shop Mazzipetti and the Kythira Foundation for Culture and Development (KIPA), in cooperation with the Cultural Association of Portokalia and the Kythera Trails, organize the Kythira Championship “Svelta” 2021-2022, mountain biking and cross-country running. The championship will have a duration of five months during which a total of six matches will be held in different villages of the island.

Participants will accumulate points according to the time they score in each race. The points will be added up and at the end of the championship will determine the winners.

In the coming years the games will be organized in other settlements of the island.

The Kythira Championship “Svelta”, mountain biking and cross-country running is here to prove that the local community can contribute and achieve a lot for its place.

We are pleased to announce that the cost of each registration to the races is donated entirely to the Kytheraiko Foundation for Culture and Development, for the overall maintenance and improvement of the island's network of paths and cycling routes (cleaning, signage repairs, technical points, openings, etc.).

Your prize, the local community!

Your participation in the race ensures your contribution to society. For every one kilometre you cycle or run, a corresponding part of the route you take in that village will be maintained, with your contribution. You just give your best!

THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THE GAMES AND THE ESCORTS, SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE HEALTH PROTOCOL WILL BE STRICTLY OBSERVED.

  • ​​Participants will arrive with a 72-hour negative PCR test or 48-hour rapid test certificate or a vaccination certificate or a certificate of infection.

Notice of the 1st Svelta Cup race
-Kythera River-

The Mazzipetti bike shop and the Kythera Foundation for Culture and Development (KIPA), in cooperation with the Portokalia Cultural Association and Kythera Trails, organize mountain biking and cross-country open road races on the Kythera River. The races are part of the cup called Svelta Cup 2021-22 and are the first of the series.

Type of races: XC (cross country) Mountain bike and trail running

Date of the event: Sunday 21 November 2021

Time/place of start/finish: 09:30 Central square of Potamos Kythera

Route description: The route of the race will be a 5.5 km cycle of low technical difficulty with small uphill and downhill common for running and cycling and will consist of cobbled - rural dirt roads - concrete roads - paved roads as well as a section of marked Kythera Trails.

Route distances:

Bicycle 11km (two 5.5km laps)

Running 5.5 km

The route will be marked for reconnaissance from 20/11 morning hours.

Water/feed stations: There will be one (1) station for running and three (3) for cycling.

Stations may be modified depending on weather conditions.

Sunday 21/11 08:00-09:20 pick up numbers from the secretariat at the central square of Potamos

10:45 start of the cycling race

12:30 awards ceremony

13:00 start of the running race for primary school pupils

13:30 start of the cycling race for primary school students

14:00 awards for primary school students

PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS' COMPETITIONS

Circular route of 1200 meters distance common for running and cycling on the cobbled streets of the river. The route will be modified for children aged 6-9 years old.

AWARDS

The top three (3) finishers in each category in each sport will be awarded. All participants will receive a commemorative medal.

OTHER INFORMATION

-Right to participate in the races are those who have reached the age of 18 years. For minors, the completion of an affidavit of the guardian is required (provided by the organization upon receipt of the entry number).

-Using a helmet for cycling is required.

-For the participation in the race the respective health protocols of the GGA apply.

-The use of a mask in the starting area and secretariat is mandatory.

PARTICIPATION FEE

10,00 € for the cycling race

5,00 € for the running race

12,00 € for participation in both sports.

Payment will be made upon receipt of the entry number.
Entries under the age of 18 are free of charge.
