Katerina Stefanidi will live for the third time (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2021, she missed the final in London 2012), in her rich and full of distinctions career, the experience of a final at the Olympic Games. The Greek Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 will compete for a medal in the pole vault final at the Paris Olympics, which will take place next Wednesday (7/8, 20:00 GMT).
The 34-year-old top Greek athlete, competed in the first qualifying group and cleared the first height (4.20m.), while she got the «ticket» for the final, as she passed 4.40m with the first attempt and 4.55m with the second, which «gave» the qualification.
At the same time, the 24-year-old, Ariadni Adamopoulou, «lives the dream», as in her first appearance at the Olympic Games, she exceeded the 4.20m and 4.40m with her first attempt, but failed three times at 4.55m. However, she secured qualification as one of the nine jumpers who did not have a failed attempt at 4.40m, resulting in 20 (!) athletes competing in the final for the first time in Olympic history.
The qualifying height was four metres and 70 centimetres, but no efforts were needed at this height, as the qualification was decided at a lower height (4.55m).
The 28-year-old Eleni Polak also competed in the first group, who, after clearing 4.20m on her first attempt, had three failed jumps at four metres and 40 centimetres. It is worth noting that Great Britain's Holly Bradshaw, who won the bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, was also eliminated at the same height (4.40m).
