The 26-year-old driver and his 19-year-old passenger accused of the fatal drifting of the 21-year-old student in Kamara, in Thessaloniki, apologize to the Thessaloniki Interrogator today.
They had been charged with felony charges and after the death of the student they face more serious charges. The 26-year-old is now being prosecuted for dangerous driving resulting in death and the 19-year-old for aiding and abetting that offense.
In addition, the former is charged with hit-and-run and driving without a license, while the latter is charged with accessory to hit-and-run.
Preliminary questioning, the 26-year-old, of Albanian origin, allegedly denied that he was running, claiming - among other things - that he left the point of drifting because he was afraid, as he does not have a residence permit in Greece.
The 21-year-old, who was studying at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, fought for five days to keep herself alive. She was hospitalized in the ICU of Papageorgiou Hospital, where she finally succumbed yesterday to her severe injuries. Showing great generosity of spirit, her parents decided to donate her organs.
Her funeral will take place today in her place of origin, Chania.
