In strong style, the faction of Kythera Mayor Efstratios Harhalakis denounced the minor opposition for populism and disrespect in the election process of the Property Committee.
Referring to the candidacy of Ms. Eleni Tallarou, accused the faction «Free Kythera» for late announcement of support and for communication manipulations that exploited the candidate.
The Mayor expressed his displeasure at the names used in the meeting, referring to a lack of seriousness and disrespectful references. The statement closed with a pointed question to the Leader of the Opposition about the Church's appeals to the CoE against the Domestic Property. Read the statement below:
Theatricality, populism, rudeness and not a trace of shame!
On August 30, 2024 the Mayor, as legally responsible, sent the invitations to the electorate for their presence on September 12, 2024 for the discussion of the proceedings of the outgoing Property Committee of Kythera and Antikythera and the election of the Chairman, Members and Alternate Members of this committee for the current municipal period. Attached to the letter were detailed instructions for the procedure (based on the provisions of the relevant PD and not arbitrarily), so detailed that there was no room for the slightest misinterpretation.
One day before the election, i.e. on 11-09, the minority opposition party announced its support for Ms. Eleni Tallarou. This was followed by a post by the leader of the «Free Kythera» party in which he informed us of the 10 reasons for supporting this particular candidate. In addition and as the procedure provided, both Mr. Mariatos with a structured positioning and Mr. Sophios with a somewhat more anermatic supported the candidacy of Mrs. Tallarou, with a dark point unfortunately the reference to the person of Mr. Venardos as «Vangelis» (in an official public procedure with recording minutes), which apart from insolence shows a lack of seriousness. Of course, Mr Sophios is used to such references: «the Syntec, Zorba, Sarandakos», etc. However, at least this time, he got a first answer from Mr. Venardo...
And here, unfortunately, the fallacy, the amateurism and ultimately the brutal exploitation of Mrs.Tallarou's presence by Mr.Sophios is evident. A faux pas, because from 30/08/2024, when the election date was announced, he chose to announce her candidacy at the last minute, not giving Mrs. Tallarou any time at all to expose alone and autonomously, without any patrons and proxies, in the time until the elections, her own vision for the Commission, through the local media. It was a matter of course, because the procedure was known to the members of the minor opposition that did not allow the candidate to address the electors during the meeting. Finally, it is a STUPID EXCEPTION, because knowing the above, they preferred to expose and abuse the presence of Mrs Tallaroux with yet another theatricality.
It is easy, Mr Sophie, to insult the electorate because it did not take part in another communication theatre on your part. Fortunately we have learned you, both we and the people of Kythera. Unfortunately for you, it also became clear that in the face of your ambition you have little interest in the political and human condition of your supporters. Once again the «rudeness» with which you accuse all those who do not identify with your views is directed towards your actions and the manipulative way in which you try to convince people that you have a political proposal.
By the way, who gave you the right to collectively describe the entire electoral college as a «bunch of rude, uncultivated middle-aged and over-aged men» and a «body of mediocrities»? Are all the councillors, chairmen and members of communities who do not belong to your party “rude, uncultivated and mediocre”? Do you think you are above them all? Do you think you are superior to everyone else simply because of your age? We do not expect answers to these questions that have been on the minds of the whole island for the last 24 hours. On the contrary, as the Gospel says, «and thy speech shall also make thee good». History has taught us that anyone who crosses red lines and commonly accepted moral boundaries has no chance of success, especially in public life and politics. If these are the principles espoused by “Free Kythera”, rejoice!
Finally, there is a question for which we demand a clear answer from Mr.Sophios, even now, since during the election he kept - for known reasons - absolute silence. Does he have an opinion on the Church's appeals to the CoE against the Domestic Property?;
