Self tests will stop being distributed free of charge by pharmacies on 19 June, as announced by the Thanasis Papathanasis member of the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association. This is how the pharmacists decided to express their opposition to the government's measures.
Mr Papathanasis, speaking to OPEN, noted: «As the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association we have taken the decision to we extend the two months distribution until 19 June. The agreement we have made is that we will cover the society to the end of month. Stops the free distribution of the self-test from the pharmacies, it is a decision that is to the knowledge of the State», he underlined and then clarified that the agreement that existed was for two months and shall expire on those days.
Mr Papathanasis said that employees will be able to obtain 3 self-diagnostic tests from pharmacies this week, which will be used for the next 3 weeks. He even made it clear that pharmacists will offer 3 self tests to the candidates of the national examinations until the 19th of the month, as well as to primary school students and teachers.
The announcement of the Pharmaceutical Association
«The Board of Directors of P.F.S. decided with 11 votes in favor, 1 for the availability exclusively to the educational community and 3 against, the availability of free Self tests until June 19, 2021, for a more complete and faster service to the population and especially for the needs of students due to the Panhellenic Examinations.
After this date, pharmacies will have to collect from pharmacies the stocks that are left unused, as the free distribution of self-tests will be terminated.
From Monday 7/6/2021 until Saturday 12/6/2021, 3 Self tests for the Public and Private Sector will be made available from 7/6 to 30/6 according to a decision of the Ministries concerned.
Also, from Monday 14/6/2021 to Saturday 19/6/2021, 3 Self Tests will be made available for the educational community (students, teachers, administrative staff).
In this way, it will be possible for both high school students to obtain Self tests in view of the Panhellenic Examinations and primary school students for the end of the school year».
What happens next with the self-test
According to what Mr Papathanasis told OPEN, the self-test will not stop being available in pharmacies, which already have self-diagnostics tests, which can be obtained for a fee. «The prices are around 5 to 6 euros,» he said.
