Suspension for the region of Arkalochori Crete, near which the strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred on Monday morning had made on Thursday the director of the Geodynamic Institute, Akis Tselentis, on the occasion of an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale.
Akis Tselentis in his post referred to an area that is in excitement, calling on residents to follow seismic protection measures and avoid old stone houses.
The Tselentis post
«This morning we had another 3.7R earthquake in Arkalochori. As I have repeatedly mentioned this phenomenon will continue for some time yet but the intervals between earthquakes will become thinner but the magnitudes will move at these levels.
From the additional instruments we have placed in the wider area we have accurately calculated the causes of the phenomenon which is due to Castellia faults and Thrapsano which join in the background under the Municipality of Minos Plain.
We have also observed a small seismic action in the area of Archanes Vassilies in the Yukta rift which we are also monitoring.
I've been in contact with both the mayor Arkalochori as well as with the mayor Heraklion while in a recent meeting I had with the regional governor of Crete, it was decided to proceed with a very important programme regarding the seismic armouring of Crete with emphasis, of course, on the area that is currently under stimulation
You must continue to follow seismic protection measures and avoid old stone-built houses as I have told you.».
