Ο Kyriakos Mitsotakis blamed the committee of infectious diseases for the enforcement of the Protocol 50%+1 in order to close a school district due to coronavirus. As he said in an interview with Nikos Hadjinikolaou:
«The 50+1 was suggested by the Commission. If the Commission told us 25, we'd say 25.. The Commission felt that when we have a department-wide protocol of rigorous testing, there is no need for the department to close with fewer cases.».
A few hours earlier, the member of the Committee of Infectious Diseases, Professor Alcibiades Vatopoulos, speaking on Alpha radio, made it clear that this the 50%+1 measure in schools was not discussed or proposed by the Committee of Experts, of which he is a member, but was put by the Ministry of Health.
The same view was expressed by 10 days ago and TMr. Panagiotopoulos, member of the Committee of Infectious Diseases, who had stated in a television interview that «50%+1 was not a recommendation of the scientists».
As Takis Panagiotopoulos revealed, it was discussed but never became a proposal. He added, in fact, that 50%+1 has no epidemiological rationale».
Mr Panagiotopoulos told the @AGiamali that the 50%+1 for schools was not a recommendation of the scientists as it has no epidemiological rationale. Change it now! Safe operation of schools means smaller class sizes and a different protocol. #speciality pic.twitter.com/pLrsgrVIcg
