As of today, Wednesday, November 2, the «household basket» will be implemented according to the Ministerial Decision signed yesterday by the Minister of Development & Investments, Adonis Georgiades. The aim of the measure is to ensure low prices for a group of consumer products defined by the Ministry, while each supermarket business will autonomously select the product codes and prices of the products included in the basket.
Mr Georgiades, Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasis, the Secretary General of Commerce and Consumer Protection Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, the Commander of the Interdepartmental Market Control Unit (DIMEA) Charalambos Melissinos and DIMEA auditors, visit today, the first day of implementation of the measure for the «household basket», supermarket chain stores in Attica.
«We are interested to see if the chains, producers and food industries will honour their agreement and do their best to present a basket with 51 categories of products that our vulnerable fellow citizens can buy,» Georgiades said in a statement yesterday and added: «The basket has been created for our fellow citizens who do not make a living. We turn to him with respect, with care, with empathy and say to him “the state is working to find a solution to your problem”.
It is recalled that the «household basket» includes 51 categories of products, namely:

According to the relevant legislation, supermarkets included in the measure must offer at least one product from each product category included in the household basket at an affordable price, especially compared to other products of the same category.
These products will be marked with the special label published by the Ministry of Development both on the shelves and in the promotional media of businesses.
According to the same regulation, products included in the «household basket» are checked, as a priority, for compliance with the unfair profit provision. In addition, the products on the list may be differentiated each time a new list is sent by the obligated parties to the Ministry of Development and Investment.

The Ministry of Development & Investment's website has posted the price lists of 13 chains, while the products participating in the “basket” are marked with relevant signage on the shelf and the advertising displays of the chains.
The prices announced today are valid for the next week as the composition of the basket will change every Wednesday. Please note that the price per package and per unit of measurement is shown in the application.
