The expiry of the vaccination certificate has been well and truly on the EU's table since the EU health ministers' meeting currently underway in Brussels is deciding when it should expire uniformly for all member states.
In particular, Community health ministers are now formally discussing the the issue of the expiry of the vaccination certificate, in an attempt to pressure people to take the third dose of the vaccine.
Two proposals have been put on the table: To automatically expire the vaccination certificate after 9 months if the booster/booster dose has not been given or at 12 months. It seems that at the moment there is still no common line on the expiry date of the vaccination certificate.
A proposal to end the vaccination certificate was made earlier by the Greek Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, who sits on the Council of Health Ministers.
«From the Greek side, we will take into account the new measures that we have taken, which have to do with restrictions especially for the categories of our citizens over 60 who have not been vaccinated, as well as the need to increase the third dose, the booster dose to all citizens,» Plevris said, coming to the Council of EU Health Ministers.
However, EU health ministers are expected to decide next week when the vaccination certificate should expire.
Notably, the proposal under discussion is to start applying the measure from 1 February for travel within the EU.
