Today, at the Trifyllion Hospital of Kythera, was the member of the Executive Committee of ADEDY - PDEDIN (Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees), Tasos Antonopoulos, where he participated in the General Assembly of the Hospital Employees Association. After the meeting, Mr Antonopoulos and the President of the Association Marilena Peleki made statements to Kythera.News.
Antonopoulos referred to staff shortages and stressed that the hospital operates with insufficient medical and nursing staff, underlining: «A hospital that stands on its feet by the tireless efforts of the few and dehydrated workers, who are no longer - after the mockery of this government - included in the heavy and unhealthy professions. Workers not only in the public sector, by specialty and those specializing in public hospitals, get 12 salaries compared to the 14 salaries private sector workers get - and rightly so».
He expressed his disappointment at the continued devaluation of public health, stressing that hospitals are in a state of neglect, with few doctors and staff trying to meet the needs of patients.
In his statement, Mr Antonopoulos made extensive reference to tomorrow's 24-hour nationwide strike, focusing on the memory of the tragedy of Tempi.
In addition, Mr Antonopoulos referred to an issue that has caused controversy, concerning the publication of the names of nurses. As he noted, the administration should not release employee information without a prosecutor's order.
