The doctors of the ICU of the hospital are forced to resign hospital of Rethymnon, reacting, as they stress, to the constant attempt to take on responsibilities beyond their own.
«The »highlight“ was a ”enteleste" for the evacuation of patients of all departments of the hospital, as reported by five doctors in the resignation letter, while at the same time stressing that daily the system pressure is even higher.
According to information from the local site goodnet.gr, in their letter the doctors claim that they are forced to submit their resignations because the administration «has been forcing us for a long time to take on tasks beyond our responsibilities and our science, making our already stressed work, which is within the unit, secondary and precarious for both the ICU patients and its doctors».
The doctors, Charalambos Markakis (coordinating director), Elias Samiotis (director), Despina Kampouraki (director), Anastasia Pentari (attending physician A) and Ekaterini Kiritsi (attending physician B), add that they have «sounded the alarm with multiple memos for a long time, but the administration not only completely ignores us, but also burdens us daily with additional tasks, culminating in the “injunction” for the evacuation of patients from any hospital department and the emergency room».
So far there has been no official reaction from the hospital administration.
