The municipal faction «All Together, Kythera - Antikythera» strongly criticizes the Municipal Authority of Kythera, highlighting the chronic and burning issue of the lack of organized parking space in Potamos. On the occasion of an official question submitted last April, the faction denounces the Mayor for inaction, administrative weakness and shifting responsibilities to the Local Council. As highlighted in the press release, the request has remained unfulfilled for more than a decade, despite the existence of an unanimous unanimous decision of the City Council. The faction rejects as an excuse the cited understaffing of services, citing a complete lack of planning and political will.

Intervention of the faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythera» for the resolution of the parking problem in Potamos.
The municipal faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythera» submitted on 13 April 2026 an official question to the Municipal Authority regarding the creation of an organized parking area in the settlement of Potamos, an issue that has been plaguing residents and visitors for years.
As pointed out in the question , the need to create parking in the River is obvious and established over time, while the legislation expressly provides for the possibility of compulsory expropriation for reasons of public utility.
The Mayor's response , instead of presenting a specific plan or timetable of actions, confirms that, the Municipal Authority has not taken any specific action, passes the responsibility to the River Community for suggesting a site, there is no reference to studies, technical reports or organized planning, while the expropriation process is dismissed as «impossible» due to understaffing.
Particularly revealing is the admission that the Municipality does not intend to proceed with expropriation procedures, citing lengthy procedures and lack of staff, which is essentially a confession of administrative weakness.
However, the request for a parking lot on the River is not a recent one. It has been a long-standing demand of the local community since before the first election of the current City Council in 2014.
Since then, for more than a decade, no substantial action has been taken to solve the problem. The plea of understaffing in recent years cannot justify the overall lack of action, given that in previous years the municipality had significantly more staff, without any corresponding mobilisation or progress even then.
Even more serious is the fact that there is a unanimous decision of the City Council for the River parking lot, which remains unimplemented. Despite the clear institutional obligation of the Mayor, according to article 58 of Law 3852/2010, to implement the decisions of the Municipal Council, the Municipal Authority has not proceeded to any substantial implementation action.
At the same time, it is clear that for years the Municipal Authority has limited itself to «exhortations» to the Community, without assuming its own responsibility, as provided by law.
On such a critical issue of daily life and public function, the response of the Municipal Authority confirms the complete absence of will and planning.
The «All Together, Kythera-Antikythera» faction will continue to highlight the problems that remain unsolved and demand concrete solutions, instead of shifting responsibilities and constant inaction.
