«ALL TOGETHER, KYTHERA - ANTI-KYTHERA»
Mr.Harhalakis distorts the institution of regular accountability!
The Municipal Authority of Kythera-Antikythera is slipping into increasingly authoritarian attitudes. Now it refuses even to discuss issues proposed by the opposition in the context of the regular accountability provided for municipalities and regions.
We suggest to the Mayor to re-read article 5 of the relevant circular (“Special meeting of accountability of the municipal authority”), which states: «The agenda of the meeting must include the issues that each councillor wishes to raise, which relate to the work of the municipal authority, if they have been submitted in writing to the Bureau of the municipal council three (3) days before the meeting. Each councillor may raise up to one (1) item.».
That's exactly what we did, but the Municipal Authority refused to introduce for discussion the issues we chose... Maybe because they didn't like the questions, maybe because they knew they would be exposed by the answers, maybe because they haven't learned to be accountable...
The head of the faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythera» Mr.Zacharias Souris in a letter to the President of the Municipal Council Mr.Kapsalis pointed out that «in large municipalities and in several island municipalities, there is no talk of binding questions (question - answer) as we were asked in writing through your invitation, but for issues that each Councillor chosen to submit at his discretion».
Simply put:
–The State has chosen to introduce the institution of accountability in the municipalities.
–Because some who feel «Ludovico» do not want to be accountable to anyone, they decided (and imposed) on Kythera-Antikythera to deprive the opposition of this right.
–They want to impose a form dehydrated from any democratic process.
We make it clear that this undemocratic challenge will not go unanswered. Our party will use every legal means to enforce respect for the new institution of regular accountability.
First of all, accountability will be before the people of Kythera, who will be regularly and directly informed by us on all issues that concern them.
The Councillors of Mr. Harhalakis« faction chose to be indifferent and did not attend the special accountability meeting. Exception is the presence of Mr. Strategos who of course from the answers seems uninformed, and still »trying" to adapt to the Kytheraika things, and Mr. Kapsali because he is the chairman of the City Council and technically it is impossible to be absent.
No one will silence us.
So much for that, Mr. Mayor...
We warn the Majority Councillors who are used to silence and applaud the Mayor that they will no longer be immune. They are co-responsible...
