Nikos Poulmentis was a guest on Grigoris Arnaoutoglou's show “The 2Night Show” on Monday evening (6/11).
The renowned chef described how an unknown Greek man helped him find work in New York when he was determined to return to Greece, spoke about his daughter Marianna Poumenti, who participated in the Greek MasterChef, and shocked viewers with his description of the period when he came close to death.
«Exactly six years ago, I was smoking like a chimney and went to a doctor to have a pimple removed from my back. People don't know about it. And he says to me, “You're going to have to go for some tests, because I'm going to put you to sleep to remove it; it's infected.
The doctor did an ECG and said, “Tell me who your closest relative is, you're dying.” I gave him my wife's phone number and they looked for a hospital to send me to. I didn't feel anything, but I had a 99% blockage in my main heart artery. They told me I was dying and put in a stent. The last drops were passing through and I escaped by a hair's breadth. I had the pimple removed this year,» confessed Nikos Poulmentis.
«I have four children. My eldest daughter from my first marriage went on Greek MasterChef. She did very well but couldn't cope with the psychological aspect. These programs put a lot of psychological pressure on the contestants, they pressured her and she became aggressive like a child,» Nikos Poulmentis said initially.
«She is a talented cook, she is good. She asked me for advice. The last dessert she made was mine. She is hesitant about coming to America, but my home is always open,» said the chef, adding that he has no intention of returning to Greece.
