Nikos Papageorgiou, Deputy Regional Governor of the Attica Islands and president of the «New Metropolitan Attica» Development Agency, visited Kythira.
On the sidelines of his visit, we had the opportunity to discuss the progress of projects funded or promoted by the Region of Attica (which are part of the «300+1 Projects» plan), as well as the key development needs of Kythira.
Mr. Papageorgiou discussed the Region’s collaboration with the municipal government and provided an update on four major projects that have already been incorporated into the regional plan.
The new Daycare Center in Logothetianika, with a budget of 400,000 euros, has been included in the Attica Regional Program and has already been put out to bid; the process of selecting the contractor is expected to be completed.
The relevant program agreements for the remaining three projects are expected to be signed. These projects involve the construction of Municipal Slaughterhouse in Fratsia, with a budget of 2.8 million euros, on River Restoration, amounting to 1.4 million euros, and the completion of the Potamos Municipal Open-Air Theater, with a budget of 950,000 euros. The design, planning, and permitting of the projects were carried out by the Municipality of Kythira.
Particular emphasis was placed on the Municipal Slaughterhouse, which could serve as a key piece of infrastructure for the supporting livestock farming and the primary sector as a whole. It is estimated that its operation will reduce the costs and challenges faced by producers, while also creating better conditions for making the most of local production.
Mr. Papageorgiou also noted that construction of the internal water supply network in Agia Pelagia is resuming, with the aim of resolving an issue that has been pending for many years.

We’ve changed political parties and changed our ideology, but should we also be promoting projects for which the planning, development, and permitting were all handled by the Municipality of Kythira??.
