The crew of an open sea vessel of the Coastguard Corps located and rescued 97 migrants, who were on board a dinghy and were in a difficult position, yesterday in the sea area northeast of Kea.
The rescued persons were transported to the port of Lavrio, while in the framework of the preliminary investigation conducted by the Lavrio Port Authority, with the assistance of the Directorate of Security and Maritime Border Protection, four persons of Turkish nationality were involved, who are alleged to be the traffickers of the migrants for a fee.
It is noted that in the possession of one of the traffickers was found a quantity of 12.6 grams of probably narcotic substance, while the above-mentioned foreigners had sailed from Smyrna, Turkey to Italy, paying 8,000 euros per person.
