In a press release released, the Municipality of Kythira announces its inclusion in the annual special funding for small island municipalities, with a funding amount for 2022 of 249.700 €.
The statement reads:
«By decision of the Deputy Minister of Interior Mr. Stelios Petsas, the Municipality of Kythera was included for the first time this year in the annual special funding for small island municipalities, which for the year 2022 amounts to 249.700 €. This special funding was allocated in recent years to island municipalities with a population of only up to 3,500 inhabitants (based on the 2011 census), creating a substantial injustice for a few specific islands such as Kythera, Poros, Spetses, Milos and Skopelos.
In this context, the Mayor of Kythera dynamically raised the issue to the Board of Directors of the K.E.D.E., which with its unanimous decision No. 290/2021, asked to include in this important annual funding and the few island and mountainous municipalities that were excluded until now. This funding strengthens the Central Autonomous Resources of our Municipality, in a period of extremely critical for the finances of the Municipalities and is another tangible proof of the successful claiming of resources on behalf of the Municipal Authority.»
