Once again, the port of Diakofti has proven that its relationship with the «AQUA JEWEL» is... more than just close. Yesterday afternoon, during the ship's arrival from Piraeus, the adverse weather conditions ... decided to add a little suspense to the process, leading to another «recuperation» of the ship at the pier.
According to the Coast Guard, the unloading process was interrupted due to the weather and continued with a second attempt to dock. During this phase, the port stern section of the vessel came into direct contact with the boom, resulting in the creation of a small depression above the waterline.
Despite this minor «booster» damage, the procedure was completed. Landed 63 passengers and unloaded 8 cars, 8 trucks and 1 two-wheeler. Due to its precarious stay in the port, the ship sailed hastily to Kissamos, Chania.
Upon his arrival in Crete, the Kissamos Port Station applied the standard protocol, prohibiting sailing until the classification society certifies that the ship is again ready for its next... approaches.
Fortunately, apart from the hull of the ship that received another «medal» from Diakofti, there were no injuries or marine pollution. It is recalled that another «relief» happened exactly two years ago again in Diakofti. The «AQUA JEWEL» is now waiting for the green light to return to her itineraries, hopefully this time with less inclination for close contacts with the island's binders.
