The Kythira Association of Athens, as an official guest of the «Giostra of Zakynthos», participated in the Giostra events held over the three-day Whitsun weekend, June 2–4, 2023, in Zakynthos.
Delegations from abroad participated in this year’s events: Sulmona, San Marino, Sardinia, and the United Kingdom, as well as delegations from the Ionian Islands: Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaca, and Zakynthos. The Kythira Association of Athens was represented by members of its Board of Directors, Spyros Masselos and Giannis Samios, and by the Association’s Dance Troupe.
The official opening of the events took place on Friday, June 2, 2023, in Solomos Central Square, with the raising of the flags and the official medieval The Rulers' Banquet. This was followed by performances by the delegations, which were enjoyed by the crowd that had filled the square. The dance troupe of the Kythira Association of Athens impressed the audience by performing urban dances in medieval costumes.
On Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Zakynthos Regional Authority building, the official meeting of the delegations took place, along with an exchange of commemorative gifts. That evening, the dance delegations gave their official performances. Our dance troupe presented Kythirian dances, wearing it Kythirian attire and thrilled the audience, «stealing the show.».
The events concluded on Sunday, June 4, with a parade featuring all the clubs that participated in the Giostra, and the spectacle culminated with the impressive the Knights' horse races.
It was an extremely successful event, for which we extend our warmest congratulations to the Board of Directors and the members of the «Giostra of Zakynthos» and special thanks to the Kythira Association of Athens for the invitation and the exceptional hospitality.
