In a press release released, the Kythira Foundation for Culture and Development (K.I.P.A.) develop its views on the recent anonymous complaints which led to the cancellation of the 3rd edition of the Kytherian championship “Svleta Cup 2021 - 2022”, mountain biking and cross-country running.
The text deplores the practice of anonymous complaints, which «can suspend all live activity» on the island, but also advocates respect for the legality of the rules governing the holding of events such as these particular games.
Here is the press release:
«The Kythira Foundation for Culture and Development (KIPA) wishes to inform Kythirians about its participation as co-organizer in recent cycling events for all ages in Kythira.
KIPA actively participates in all events that can promote the island and give outlets to its residents and prospects for culture and tourism. For this reason, Kytherians have warmly embraced the initiatives in which it participates. For all the above reasons, the KIPA is involved as a co-organiser in all the above events, some of which were eventually cancelled due to anonymous complaints to the authorities, act generally reprehensible regardless of the matter to which they refer. These practices, it is obvious that they can suspend any vibrant activity in the place, but as far as the issue of law-abidingness in these events is concerned, the CFS unreservedly agrees that the relevant provisions and commitments governing them must be respected. Finally, we must state in the clearest possible way that the CFS is bound only by official announcements, which cite it as a source and not by any posts or reports of third parties on social media or anywhere else.
We also point out to all Kytherians that the Foundation will continue its actions with programs for the promotion and protection of the environment and will actively participate in all programs and events that upgrade the place and give broader perspectives to its inhabitants.»
