In statements to OPEN, the Minister of Health stated that based on the data we had until yesterday, ICU coverage in Attica reached 71% compared to 62% a week ago, while it is particularly worrying that, based on the data from EODY, Cases in the age group up to 9 years have increased by 11%, i.e. to approximately 400.
He stressed that coronavirus cases have risen sharply recently and that if they continue to do so in the coming days, we will be entering the third wave. He also said that total hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in the country, have reached 1,890, an increase of 300 compared to a week ago.
Furthermore, Mr. Tsiodras' statement notes that Many municipalities in Attica are in a poor epidemiological situation.
Citing data from recent days, Mr. Kikilias said that the epidemiological data leave no room for doubt. «According to EKAV, on February 6 we had 231 intubations, on February 7 we had 245, and on February 8 we had 260. That is, 15 more per day, 10 of which were in Attica, which means that we are filling up one ICU unit in a day.».
The minister clarified that the recommendation of measures is, of course, the job of the Committee of Experts, who will decide on their recommendations to the government.
From his comments, it appears that the Commission will most likely have to meet in plenary session earlier than planned.
The minister avoided referring specifically to schools, but noted the significant increase in cases among children, while it should be emphasized that a March-style lockdown would require closures.
