«Mega TV presenter Katerina Panagopoulou has »put her foot down« on »some people's demands" for free tests to combat the pandemic.
The station's journalist was annoyed by some people's obsession with «free,» as, as she characteristically writes, she herself «will pay for it as a taxpayer.».
The presenter wrote on her personal Twitter account:
«At some point, let's be clear that everything some people are asking for to be given away for free means that we, the taxpayers, will all pay for it.».
At some point, let's be clear that everything some people are asking to be given away for free means that we, the taxpayers, will all have to pay for it.

This statement has sparked a storm of reactions, with many social media users reminding her of the millions of taxpayers' money that was given to TV channels through the Petsas list.

Oh, Mrs. Panagopoulou, how beautifully you put it! With the money from the Petsas list, what investments have you made? ;#panagopoulou

Let everyone finally understand that public money is only for the TV channels!

It should be made clear that taxpayers' money is only for direct assignments, long walks, roubades, and channels that work ARD.

Are these “some people” citizens of another country, are they not taxed? Are these “some people” asking for this only for themselves or also for “you”?;
The word “free” is the least tactful when referring to basic social benefits. We are talking about the level of public figures in the year 2022.— Silent Observer (@pvcr3ator) January 10, 2022
