Plevris calls for urgent investigation into the death of a 43-year-old man at the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki

Urgent investigation to determine the causes death of a 43-year-old man at Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki asked Health Minister Thanos Plevris.

As previously reported in statements made to SKAI, the medical examiner and technical advisor to the family of the 43-year-old, Dimitris Galenteris, stated that pulmonary embolism is believed to be the most likely cause of death for the 43-year-old.

Mr. Galenteris said more specifically: «We have an idea of what we will be looking for in the laboratories. Venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are among the causes being investigated and are also the most likely. However, we are awaiting verification from the histopathology laboratory to be sure,» with histopathological tests expected to «shed light» on the case.

He explained that the victim arrived at the hospital emergency room on the evening of April 1, where he reported pain in one leg and his lower limbs were treated because he had extensive ulcers, some skin wounds, and he was allowed to return home undiagnosed.

When asked whether the 43-year-old had undergone any tests, Mr. Galenteris pointed out that «from the autopsy, I have no indication that any tests were performed, not even a blood test. We will see what emerges from the emergency room records.» He also emphasized that if he had been examined, the pulmonary embolism could have been recognized and be addressed.

«The hospital is obligated to take action to diagnose and treat the patient, regardless of whether they are leaving or not. If treatment were to begin, the chances of him leaving would be reduced to a minimum. If pulmonary embolism is fatal in 40% without treatment, with treatment this rate drops to 5%-7%,» he noted.

«This patient had an underlying acute condition that caused his death within the last few hours. Therefore, if the test had been performed, it would have been recognized by the doctors,» he emphasized, expressing his surprise at the fact that, although it is reported that no test was performed, Covid test While he was alive, the test was performed after he passed away.

«After confirming that he was dead, they conducted a COVID test, and I would like to understand what the motivation was for conducting a coronavirus test on a deceased individual,» he emphasized.
