Rhodes and the municipalities of Myrina, Atsiki and Nea Koutali of Lemnos have been declared in a state of Civil Protection Emergency due to the flooding phenomena caused by the Bora bad weather, according to a decision of the Secretary General of Civil Protection V. Papageorgiou.
Specifically, as stated in an announcement of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, the Secretary General decided to declare a state of Emergency Civil Protection of the municipality of Rhodes and the municipalities of Myrina, Atsiki and Nea Koutali of the municipality of Lemnos for the management of the consequences (floods) resulting from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena which occurred on 30-11-2024 in the above areas. This declaration will be valid from the date of the event and for one month, i.e. until 30 December 2024.
Bad weather «Bora»: extremely high rainfall
Extremely high levels of rain from Saturday 30/11 until today, Monday 2/12, the intense wave of bad weather «Bora» has given mainly in parts of Macedonia (Halkidiki, Pieria, Imathia, Pella) and in island parts of the Aegean (Rhodes, Lemnos, Thassos). Significant levels of rainfall have also been recorded in other parts of the country.
According to the data recorded by 511 weather stations of meteo's network of automatic meteorological stations.gr/National Observatory of Athens, from Saturday to 13:30 today, the eight highest rainfall heights were recorded in Simonopetra on Mount Athos (550.8 mm), Neochori Halkidiki (452.4), Rhodes (341), Vourvourou Halkidiki (299.2), Kassandria (296.6), Rizomata Imathia (288.4), the city of Veroia (244.6) and Variko Pieria (234.2).
