The trails that are used or can be used for mountain biking are going to be recorded in the next period of time in all the regional units of Central Macedonia, in order to highlight them more and create a new tourist product for the region.
In the context of the study, the paths will be maintained and vegetation and debris will be removed, while at the next stage a digital archive, maps with the necessary information, a photographic archive and audiovisual material with separate videos for each of the seven regional units will be created.
The project is part of the Tourism Promotion Programme of the Region of Central Macedonia and according to the tender notice posted today on the website of the Region, it is foreseen the research, recording and the printed and digital imaging of existing or potential cycling paths that have special characteristics and are suitable and attractive for cycling. The mapping is expected to attract the interest of cycling enthusiasts and visitors wishing to explore an area by bicycle.
More specifically, it is planned to record at least 70 kilometres of touring cycle paths throughout the Region with all the necessary technical information, such as the beginning and end of the path, rest areas, parking areas, etc.. The classification of the degree of difficulty and danger of the trails will follow, while the naming and signage of the network of cycle paths of the Region of Central Macedonia that are of tourist interest and their marking with the appropriate coding, directional indication and degree of difficulty are planned.
At the same time, proposals will be made to the competent authorities for the characterization of the trails, the management, maintenance, cleaning and marking of the registered trails of tourist interest, the establishment of partnerships with institutions and local businesses for the sustainable development of mountain biking tourism, the possible interconnection of cycling trails resulting from the research with European networks of cycling trails and the development of services capable of contributing to the creation of a tourist product (note.
The amount of the project amounts to 74.000 euros, while the funding body of the relevant contract is the Regular Budget of the Region of Central Macedonia. The duration of the contract is defined from the date of signature and for six months. The results of the research and study will be presented at a special event in the country to competent bodies (forestry offices, etc.) and local professionals related to the subject.
