A veil of dust has covered Kythera and the whole country as the phenomenon of African dust, whose arrival is facilitated by strong southerly winds, reaches its peak. By midday on Wednesday (24/4), its presence will have decreased significantly as the winds will shift to westerly.
Specifically, according to the forecast data of meteo.gr/Athens National Observatory, on Tuesday 23/04, apart from the very high dust concentrations that will limit visibility, mud showers will occur mainly in the north and west of the country.
According to the director of EMY, Thodoris Kolydas, the African dust will begin to recede from the atmosphere from Wednesday morning (24.4.2024) and by noon it will have decreased significantly.

«For the next few days and until Saturday, winds will be prevailing W-NW, so the dust will not be able to visit us,» he concludes.
Greece is not the only country affected by the African dust as the phenomenon has reached other Balkan countries and Turkey.
The weather for tomorrow Wednesday
In the west and the northern mainland clouds are forecasted, partly cloudy with a few local showers. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in the northwest in the early morning hours and again at night.
Locally limited visibility in the continental areas in the morning hours.
The transport of African dust affecting our country will gradually start to decrease from the morning. It is noted, however, that a significant reduction in concentrations is expected from midday onwards when it will be limited in the east.

Temperature: From 14 to 24 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: a few clouds, partly cloudy.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort.

MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: in Western Macedonia partly cloudy with showers and possibly isolated rain in the mountains until the morning hours and gradual improvement. In the rest of the regions a few clouds. Locally limited visibility in the morning hours.
From the evening again in the west the weather will deteriorate.
Winds: West southwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort, and in the east in the morning 5 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 11 to 22 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia 3 to 4 degrees lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: clouds intermittently increasing on the mainland with a possibility of local rain mainly in the mountains and in the early morning hours isolated thunderstorms in the northwest. From the evening and from the west the clouds will increase again and at night in the northwest there will be local rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Winds: Western northwestern 4 to 5 Beaufort, partly in the morning in the Ionian Sea locally 6 Beaufort. In the evening in the north will turn to southwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 12 to 21 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 3 to 5 degrees lower.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE
Weather: Scattered clouds.
Winds: south southeast 6 to 7 and in the Dodecanese locally 8 Beaufort, but will quickly weaken to 4 to 6 Beaufort and locally in the southernmost parts of the Dodecanese up to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 15 to 22 and in the south up to 24 degrees Celsius.

Weather: scattered clouds at times more dense with a chance of local rain in the afternoon in the mountains.
