Weather system named «Diomedes» is expected to cause bad weather starting today, Monday (10/1), with heavy rain and storms in some areas, very strong winds, and heavy snowfall, mainly in mountainous areas. A significant drop in temperature is expected from Wednesday (12/1).
According to an Emergency Bulletin on Dangerous Weather Conditions issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY):
Today, Monday (10/1), heavy rain and storms are forecast in the Dodecanese, the eastern Aegean islands, southern Crete, the coastal areas of central and eastern Macedonia, and from the evening in the central and southern Ionian Sea, the Peloponnese, eastern Central Greece, and Thessaly.
Tomorrow, Tuesday (11/1), heavy rains are forecast in Thessaly, the Sporades, the southernmost parts of central Macedonia, central and eastern Sterea (mainly in Fthiotida and Evrytania) and northern Euboea. Locally heavy storms will occur in the eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese, and Crete.
On Wednesday (12/1), heavy rain is forecast in parts of the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese, and until midday in Thessaly, the Sporades, and Euboea.
Very stormy northeasterly winds will blow tomorrow, Tuesday (11/1), in the northern Aegean and on Wednesday (12/1) and Thursday (13/1) in most of the Aegean. A slight weakening of the winds is expected from Thursday evening.
Heavy snowfall will occur tonight in the mountains of western and central Macedonia and Thessaly. On Tuesday (11/1), heavy snowfall will occur in some areas of the mountains and semi-mountains of Macedonia, Thessaly, central and eastern Sterea, and gradually in the lowlands of Thrace and eastern Macedonia. On Wednesday (12/1), temporary heavy snowfall will occur locally in the above-mentioned areas and in Euboea.
The temperature will drop significantly on Wednesday (12/1).. On Thursday (13/1) and Friday (14/1), there will be heavy frost in northern Greece in the morning and evening hours.
