Hospital doctors reject the bill on secondary care submitted to Parliament and plan strike action starting next week.
Specifically:
Monday, November 28, day of hearings in Parliament on the bill 24-hour strike and rally at Parliament
Tuesday, November 29: 24-hour strike and rally at the Ministry of Health
Thursday, December 1: 24-hour strike and rally at the Parliament building, with a call to labor centers, unions, ADEDY, etc.
The bill has been rejected by OENGE and all hospital doctors« associations, and as stated by the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Doctors» Association (EINAP), «this is a groundbreaking bill that opens dangerous back doors to the degradation of health services, the further commercialization of public health, and the expansion of the private health sector.» It adds that «the abolition of full-time and exclusive employment for doctors in the National Health System removes yet another obstacle to patients becoming easy customers for the private sector...» EINAP concludes that "these changes simultaneously constitute an upheaval and undermining of the working conditions of doctors in public hospitals.".
