«Trail Maintenance Week» is taking place in Kythera, with the Pyrgos House and Frank van Weerde already counted two “clearing trips” on the island's hiking trails.
With the help of volunteers from Austria, England, Switzerland and the Netherlands, Frank set out to Mylopotamos and Kokkinochorafa and “opened an account” with the cleaning of the trails.
The start was made at Mylopotamos, where the route M41 was chosen, which includes the valley of the Water Mills, from the waterfall of Fonissa to the Water Mill of Filippi, while the team “passed a hand” and the route that connects the church of Agios Ioannis with the valley.
The second operation focused on the path that connects Kokkinochorafa with Agia Moni and is part of the circular walking route of the north.
Winter walks begin
At the same time, the start date of the winter walks was announced by Frank and his team.
The “kick-off” will take place at Potamos Square, which has been designated as the meeting point and starting point of the first route, on Sunday 30 October, at 14:00.
The “ride” will pass through Potamos-Agios Nikon-Lianianianika-Logothetianika-Katsulianika-Mavrila-Potamos and will last 3 hours. It is a route of moderate difficulty due to a steep climb towards the end, with a length of 7 km.
Participation is free, but it is recommended that you contact us at (+30) 698986 3140 or alternatively at info@pyrgoshouse.com for better organisation. It is also advisable for participants to wear sports shoes and to bring along supplies of water and food.
Here is a rich photo reportage of Frank and his friends' excursions to clean trails in Mylopotamos and Kokkinochorafa.
