Smart tips to reduce fuel consumption

With petrol going up every day, our car journeys have become more expensive. Drivers are now looking for cheaper travel costs and many are turning to dual fuel models. Most, however, are driving economically, looking for ways to reduce transport costs.

There are some smart tips that drivers can easily implement to increase fuel economy. A well-tuned engine will save a lot of fuel. This means that good engine maintenance is essential.

We should know that every extra kilo in the car increases fuel consumption. So, things that are not needed or not necessary should not be in the car.

Good fuel quality plays an important role. It is good to have a specific petrol station with good quality fuel. After all, the fuel is responsible for the proper functioning of the engine and the reduced residue left by combustion.

Constant speed, without fluctuations, is considered the cornerstone of economical driving. We should drive wisely and in a similar way to the way we drive in the snow. Sharp throttle changes and sudden accelerations increase consumption. Even overtaking can be progressive. Driving at low revs also contributes to economical driving.

When we are going to be stationary in one place for several minutes, it is advisable to turn off the engine.. Idling will not help reduce consumption. This is why car manufacturers have implemented Start-Stop in cars in recent years.

We always use the ideal gear in the gearbox so that the car can move smoothly and comfortably without the engine running at high revs. Too many turns increase consumption.

Opening the windows while driving increases fuel consumption because air resistance increases. Especially driving fast with the windows down sharply increases fuel consumption.

Air conditioning in the car is another reason for increased fuel consumption because the engine is forced to work harder to provide the necessary energy to the cooling system. At the same time, wears out the battery more.

Driving in traffic jams increases consumption. It is advisable to look for alternative routes to get to your final destination before you set off, in order to avoid the increased traffic. We can also avoid commuting during peak hours.

Slowing down at traffic lights should be smooth and gradual. This helps to reduce fuel consumption by braking sharply a few metres before.

Finally, properly inflated tyres are another economy factor. Always inflate them according to the manufacturer's instructions. A tyre that does not have the right pressure not only increases consumption but also wears out the tyre and reduces traction with the road surface.
