«Battle» with the flames give the firefighting forces in the large fire front that broke out yesterday, Tuesday, in the area of Fili in order to prevent the fire from heading to the ridge of Parnitha.
According to the Fire Department, the fire is ongoing and is heading east towards Dardiza, St. John the Russian and St. Paraskevi, and there is concern for homes.
To extinguish the fire, 202 firefighters with 9 teams of hiking teams and 65 vehicles are operating, while at first light 2 aircraft and 5 helicopters started to operate and are expected to be further reinforced. At the same time, the efforts of the Fire Brigade are assisted by volunteer firefighters, water trucks and project machinery of the Land Army and the local government.
Four fronts in Evros
With the ground firefighting forces unabated, seven airborne resources - and the operational firefighting planning to prioritize human life, property and the forest -, attempts have been made since morning to tame and extinguish the fire fronts of Dadia, Melia, Leptokaria and Sykorrachi.
Watching the course of the front that continues to burn in Dadia for the third day, the forestry services of the county in conjunction with the northeast winds blowing in the area driving the fire threat southwest and just meet a ravine to create fronts with geometric progress, they estimate that if the fire in Dadia, which is further north, is not finished, the southern Evros will not calm down, as they tell APE-MPA.
They cite as an indicative example the settlement of Melia, where - while the fire that broke out there last Saturday has been extinguished - is threatened again by the fire coming down from Dadia and has already approached it.
Also, the settlements of Avantas, Nipsa and Dorikos were threatened in the previous days by both the Melia and Dadia fires, with the latter threatening Avantas again if it leaves southwest due to the northeast winds.
The ground forces operating today are 220 firefighters with 59 vehicles, 11 teams of firefighters, two firefighting aircraft and five firefighting helicopters.
