With decisions signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, the Chevron investment scheme – Helleniq Energy wins the international tender announced last April by the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Resources Management Company (EDEYEP) concerning the concession of four offshore areas for exploration leading to the identification of potential hydrocarbon deposits.
In the first two months of 2025, Chevron expressed interest in the offshore blocks «South of the Peloponnese,» «A2,» «South of Crete I,» and «South of Crete II.».
Based on the ministerial decision, the Evaluation Committee of EDEYEP (Hellenic Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company) will invite the Chevron–Helleniq Energy consortium to finalize the draft contracts to be signed with the Greek State in the near future, which will include a total of four blocks: «South of the Peloponnese,» «A2,» «South of Crete I,» and «South of Crete II.».
The next step is to send the tender dossier to the Court of Auditors for pre-contractual review. Following a positive recommendation, the Lease Agreements will be signed by the companies and EDEYEP, approved by the Minister of Environment and Energy, and then ratified by Parliament.
The ratification of the agreements will be the final step before the start of seismic surveys, which are expected to begin in 2026, depending on environmental approvals.
