A third shell was found at a construction site on Leontos Sofou Street in Thessaloniki.

An alarm was raised for the third time at the construction site located on Leontos Sofou Street, as a third oxidized shell was found during earthworks.

The owner and operator of earthmoving machinery, Angelos Fratzidis, who located the three shells, told the Athens and Macedonian News Agency that ‘it is a 33 cm oxidized shell from World War II. It appears to be active, like the two previous ones we found in almost the same spot, which is why we immediately notified the authorities.«.

He added that he is being very cautious «because there is a high probability that we will find others at this specific location.».

The area has been cordoned off by the police, and army bomb disposal experts are expected to arrive to transport the shell to a firing range for disposal, a procedure that was followed in both previous cases.
