On Friday 18 August 2023 at 21:00, the gallery will host the follow your art in Kythera, invites you to the group exhibition entitled «A mark on the surface» curated by Stephanos Rokos.
The participants are: Stefanos Rokos, Sophia Rozaki and Cleopatra Tsalis.
On the occasion of the exhibition with the general title «Sequences», the gallery invites an established artist and at the same time commissions him to introduce two younger emerging artists. The criteria by which the younger artists are selected are entirely personal and may be based on a common place and artistic approach, a love for the same medium of expression or, on the contrary, on the different approach and the dialogue that may result from it. The fusion of visual proposals will each time lead to a unique visual result.
The institution will be inaugurated in the summer of 2023 by the painter Stefanos Rokos, with the artists Sophia Rozaki and Cleopatra Tsalis. In the work of the three artists, a common theme can be observed: man and nature with a surrealistic approach. All three have detailed writing, delicate lines and subliminal humour with a clear autonomy in rendering and intentions.

«The invitation of Georgia Tseri to inaugurate the new exhibition section of the gallery under the single title «Sequences», presenting, along with two recent works of mine, works of my choice by younger artists in the field, I must admit that it was not difficult for me. I have been following the work of Cleopatra Tsalis and Sophia Rozakis for many years, with the same amazement and admiration I have for any artist who subverts the way I read an image. The common elements I find in our aesthetics are deeper than shared influences and references. In both artists there are inherent ingredients that I have been striving for throughout my career through my painting: an inexhaustible appetite for creativity, resilient ideas, second reading, and a commitment
to the essence of detail. I am proud to present to the public some of their characteristic works, but I am also happy that our works themselves, like a peculiar company, will spend ten days together, hung in the gallery space, talking incessantly and analyzing everything interesting or not in their lives.».

«Through my work I try to feel the complexities of identity as a fluid and ever-changing condition, exploring concepts such as memory, trauma, desire and sexuality. Starting from this perspective, my works are characterised by the element of narrative, a non-linear and timeless narrative in which embodied experience plays a leading role. Cleopatra, the affinities between the three are evident at first glance. That sense that you are not watching a static image, but a story in progress. Three different visual languages with common patterns, worked with sensitive gestures that carry intense symbolism, create images that, despite their apparent calm, conceal an underlying tension. The whole of my visual practice explores the places and ways of
wandering, temporary settlement, nomadism and, by extension, the relationship
with the environment, as well as living together. Approaching mobility as
way of searching for identity and its constant redefinition, I would like to
my works to function as research stations, spreading traces in an imaginary
a permanent travel map. The imprint and its reproduction, the materialities
bearing earthly characteristics, the contrasts, the apparent structural anarchy, the
error, the game of revealing and concealing, the cortex and the core of the
vegetables, food residues, traces of flowers, the horror that becomes a feast,
are just a few of the elements that I feel connect me to his work
