Unfair, immoral and unethical, characterized the government's decision to suspend without pay from September 1, health workers who do not wish to be vaccinated against coronavirus, the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the «Trifyllion» Hospital and the director-coordinator of the anaesthesia department of the hospital, Mrs. Eleni Alagianni.
Ms. Alagianni, speaking to Kythera.News, as part of the protest against the new measures for the coronavirus and of compulsory vaccination, which took place on Thursday morning, 26/08, outside the Kythera hospital.
«As a doctor, a health professional and a citizen of this country, I assert my right to have an opinion... These vaccines are not reliable enough, as the evidence shows that vaccinated people are equally transmitting the virus and getting sick... You cannot, in a time of pandemic, with increased health care needs, put staff on suspension... There are many of us in this group of people who will suffer the penalties, 25 in number. The hospital will not be able to function properly understaffed... This act is unethical, it violates the Hippocratic Oath that we health workers took. As doctors, we do not have the right to perform a medical act without the patient's consent. It is therefore inconceivable, in 2021, that people should be forced to be vaccinated against their will,» said Ms. Alagianni, in a highly emotional state. She did not fail to thank the vaccinated colleagues who came to the rally in support, to conclude: «How is it possible that until August 31 we are useful to the health system and from September 1, we are considered dangerous? What logic dictates this?»
Recall that, under the government's new measures, health workers who do not wish to receive the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, which causes the covid-19 infection of the new coronavirus, are to be suspended from work, without pay, from September 1. For the same day (01/09), the suspended health workers have announced new mobilizations, with a protest meeting outside the Kythera Hospital, asking for the support of the Kythera people.
