Emergency hazardous phenomena bulletin for 36 hours

On Tuesday morning (20/1), the National Weather Service issued an emergency bulletin of dangerous weather phenomena, informing that bad weather is going to occur from tomorrow Wednesday (21/1) until noon on Thursday.

Many areas of the country will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, heavy snowfall and gusty winds reaching 9 Beaufort.

In fact, the phenomena will be particularly intense and more dangerous in the eastern and southern Peloponnese, Attica, Evia, Sporades, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.

In more detail, the flash bulletin states:

“Bad weather is forecast in our country tomorrow Wednesday (21/1) and until noon on Thursday (22/01) with main features:

A. heavy rain and thunderstorms from early Wednesday morning in many areas of central and southern Greece and from the afternoon of the same day in the Aegean Sea,

B. locally heavy snowfall on Wednesday in the mountains - semi-mountains of mainland Greece and in areas of Thessaly and Macedonia with low altitude and

C. the local authorities gusty winds

More specifically:

A. Heavy rain and storms are forecast:

a. in the Peloponnese (mainly in Messinia, Laconia, Argolida and Corinthia) on Wednesday until the afternoon

b. in eastern Central Greece and Evia on Wednesday from midday until evening

γ. in Attica at noon - afternoon on Wednesday

d. in Thessaly, the Sporades and the Cyclades on Wednesday afternoon

e. on the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean Sea from late Wednesday evening until midday on Thursday

f. in the Dodecanese on Thursday until midday

It should be noted that the phenomena will be particularly intense and more dangerous in the eastern and southern Peloponnese, Attica, Evia, Evia, Sporades, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.

Β. Heavy snowfall forecast for Wednesday

a. until noon in the mountainous - semi-mountainous areas of the Peloponnese (mainly Arcadia, Achaia and Corinthia)

b. until the afternoon in the mountainous - semi-mountainous areas of Epirus and western and central Central Sterea

c. in Thessaly in the mountains - semi-mountains and in some places until the afternoon and in lowland areas

d. in western Macedonia until the afternoon

e. in central Macedonia in the afternoon - afternoon

f. in the mountains - semi-mountains of eastern Macedonia and in the mountains of Thrace in the afternoon - evening.

Noted that the snowfall will be particularly heavy in the region of western Macedonia and the regional units of Trikala, Karditsa and Evritania.

Γ. Gusty south-easterly winds (8 to 9 Beaufort) will blow until noon on Wednesday (21/01) in the northern Ionian Sea and until the morning of Thursday 22-01-2026 in the southern and central Aegean Sea.

The weather on Wednesday (21/01)

The weather worsens with increasing clouds and local rain across the country.

Sporadic thunderstorms will occur in the Ionian Sea, mainly in the marine - coastal parts of the western, central and southern mainland and gradually in the Cyclades, Crete, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese.

Snowfall will occur in the continental highlands - semi-mountainous areas, which are expected to be more intense in the central and northern areas.

Winds will blow in the west east southeast 6 to 8 and in the morning hours in the Ionian Sea locally 9 Beaufort, with gradual weakening.

In the east will be southeast winds 6 to 8 and in the Aegean Sea from the afternoon possibly 9 Beaufort.

Temperatures will rise slightly in the south, but frost will occur in the morning and evening hours in the northern mainland.

The weather on Thursday (22/01)

In the west, the Cyclades, Crete, the Dodecanese and the islands of the eastern Aegean, increased clouds with showers and occasional thunderstorms.

In the rest of the regions a few clouds with local rain.

Snowfall will occur in the central and northern continental highlands.

Winds will blow south southwestern 4 to 6, while in the morning hours southeastern 6 to 8 Beaufort prevailing in the Dodecanese with fast weakening and in the northern Aegean north 4 to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly in the northern and central continents.

The weather on Friday (23/01)

In the west, the south and the eastern Aegean Sea increasing clouds with showers and occasional thunderstorms.

In the rest of the regions a few clouds with local rain mainly in the central and southern areas.

Snowfall will occur in the northern continental mountains.

Winds will blow south southwest 4 to 5 and locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly.

The weather on Saturday (24/01)

In the west, south and east parts, increasing clouds with showers and occasional thunderstorms mainly in the marine - coastal parts. In the rest of the regions a few clouds, partly increasing with local showers mainly in the central and northern areas.

Light snowfall will occur in the mountains of Epirus and western Macedonia.

Winds will blow south southwest 4 to 5 and locally up to 6 Beaufort with a tendency to strengthen from the evening.
