The Municipality of Chania, recognizing the extraordinary needs that have arisen in students of all levels of distance education, proceeds to the supply of digital equipment (tablet), a total of 72,000 euros corresponding to about 600 devices, from its own resources.
The initiative of the Municipality to collect the necessary equipment is going to cover a significant part of the shortcomings that have been identified. The material will be delivered to the Directorates of A / primary and B / primary Education of Chania, which will have the final responsibility of distribution to students of the Municipality of Chania.
With this initiative, demonstrates the overall practical support of the Municipality of Chania in the school community, since a total of only the last week, have been secured, in addition to 72,000 euros, 110,000 euros extra for building interventions, maintenance work and emergency supply of material to school units.
The Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, said: «The Municipality of Chania does not remain indifferent to the special needs that arise for students and their families, wanting to ensure equal participation in the educational process. For this reason, despite the fact that this move does not fall directly within our responsibilities, we stand up to the circumstances and take the relevant initiative. We know that we will only cover part of the total needs, but we will exhaust every possibility to further support our students. The deputy mayors of Finance, Tasos Aloglou and Education, Antonis Vardakis, are responsible for the smooth completion of the process.
