The Mormori Road is put out to tender after 6 years of bureaucracy

The Programme Agreement between the Attica Region Governor Mr. George Patoulis and the Mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis was signed

One good news for the residents and visitors of Kythera, the press release of the Municipality of Kythera issued late on the evening of Thursday 8 July, as it was announced that the tendering of an important project for the region AulomonaDiakoftium. This is the road «Papa Mormori» that will finally widened and will paved after they passed 6 years since the Mayor of Kythira Efstratios Charhalakis and the former Regional Governor of Attica Rena Dourou launched the project with a budget of €500,000 with funds from the Region.

The project had been proposed by the Mayor to the Regional Governor, and approved at the 23rd meeting of the Regional Council of Attica in July 2015. the mayor had said at the time, «The Municipality and the Region have cooperated harmoniously and continuously with the aim of planning many important projects, which the Municipality could not afford to finance with its own resources».

The project was signed between Mr. George Patoulis, Regional Governor of Attica and of Mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis on Thursday 08/07/2021 via teleconference, in the presence of the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands Ms. Vasso Theodorakopoulou Bogris.

The project met bureaucratic difficulties years but thanks to the successful Cooperation of technical services of the Municipality and the Region, is taking the road to implementation.

It seems that the Regional Authority shows active interest for our island continuing on the foundations laid in previous years. It remains to be seen whether we will have good news about the work of the extension of the runway of Kythera State Airport, which as we have been informed by deputy district administrator κ. The Mormori Road is put out to tender - The Programme Contract was signed

Signed between the Governor of Attica Mr. George Patoulis and the Mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis the Programme Contract for the construction of the project «Mormori Avlemon Street» with a budget of 500.000,00€. The project is financed by the Region of Attica and will be put out to tender immediately by the Municipality of Kythera. The signing took place on Thursday 08/07/2021 via teleconference, in the presence of the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands Ms. Vasso Theodorakopoulou Bogris.

The study and the full maturation of the project (including all the required approvals) was a long process that was successfully completed by the Technical Service of the Municipality of Kythera in cooperation with the Technical Support Department of Attica Island Municipalities of the Region of the Islands.

It is planned to widen the entire road over a length of approximately 3.5 km in order to obtain the appropriate width of 5.5 m, the construction of stormwater drainage techniques, the installation of metal protective parapets and the road's delineation after the asphalt paving with a new modern asphalt pavement of 5 cm thickness.

The project is extremely important as it shortens the route from Diakofti (central port) to the tourist areas of Avlemonas and Paleopolis by at least 15 km. This is one of the most important road projects in Kythera in the last decades.
