Protest of the President of the Community of Kythera

Below is the protest sent by the president of the Municipal Community of Kythera Manolis Kousouris to the island's media.

This is the umpteenth time we have been confronted with this spectacle. A shame and disgrace to a supposedly organized municipality. Assume what? Incompetence? Or indifference? I think it is indifference because the City Council has proven that it can do many things when it wants to.

While I was taking these photos, the deputy mayor in charge of sanitation passed by and I stopped him to complain about this sight. And the answer was: «What should I do? Who will pick them up?».

The question is not who will pick them up, (because there is always someone to pick them up, as now, once again, I, the President, picked them up and I was helped by a conscientious citizen passing by.)

The point is that this spectacle must not happen again. Whenever I have raised this issue with the municipal authority I hear the excuse «that there is a study that has been done free of charge by the engineer Mr. Dourida that will solve this problem. I have been hearing this excuse for at least 6 years.

When will this work finally be done? I wonder if it will be done during the term of this city government?;

How many more years do we have to wait for such a small project for which there is already a study?;

It has been proposed by the local council in the technical programme they ask us for every year but no response to date.

I also want to point out that I consider this point is unsuitable for the garbage bins and for the heavy objects for the following reasons as I have proposed it before to the Municipal Authority:

1. Because it is very close to the Kythera High School and that is where our children board and disembark. I have witnessed the garbage truck taking the bins and liquids running out of the bins and children being forced to step on them to get through.
2. Because at this point the wind catches a lot of wind and even picks up objects through the large tub which are spread out in the surrounding area.
3. Because it is on the busiest road in the capital of the island and it is not a pretty sight when a small lottery ticket is occasionally created there.

I hope that this time I will be heard and the matter will be resolved and that this will be the last time I will raise the issue in public. Otherwise I will come back .

In conclusion, I would like to point out that there are residents of the country who are willing to implement the existing study with their own financial means.
