A confrontation with harsh statements has taken place in the last 24 hours between the Mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis and the Communist Party of Greece on the occasion of poster, and by extension in non-convergence of interparliamentary for the European elections.
The «race» began when yesterday Saturday the Mayor, after being informed that members of the KKE stuck Posters in columns on the island, made the following post on Facebook:
«In recent days, a political party represented in the Parliament has filled Kythera with election posters in violation of the Law and without having received any approval from the municipality concerned. If ALL are not removed by Monday morning, a complaint will be filed and the appropriate fine will be imposed. The protection of aesthetics and the environment must first and foremost be served by those who legislate. No tolerance.».
The response of the KKE to the accusations of Harhalakis
Follow today the reaction of Piraeus Sectoral Committee of the KKE a press release, which refers to Mayor Harhalakis' misdeeds, which jealous of his colleagues, and in the end accuses him of breach of duty for not calling inter-party committee for the allocation of premises to the parties. «The misery of his fellow mayors and beyond seems to be envied the mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis. In a statement issued behind which makes reference generally to a parliamentary party demands in substance the political persecution of the action of the KKE.
The Mayor is well aware that the Posters political parties and municipal factions are not advertising material but a means of promoting political positions and actions. In particular, as far as the KKE is concerned, it is well aware that it is and one of our main means of communication with the people. Besides, we neither enjoy «favourable treatment and promotion» nor do we have relations with the «parrots» of the media.
For the KKE, the poster, the banner, the announcement are the only means of disseminating our politics that we have and we insist on their use, especially in times of elections like the one we are facing.
But if he thinks that he will impose political silence by handing out fines to the KKE, he is deeply mistaken. The political action and voice of the KKE is not obstructed, not silenced! Such actions can only stiffen our resolve. We will continue, even more resolutely, to propagate our positions, to organise the struggles for the daily problems and needs of our people.
Some people are deeply mistaken if they think they are holding us back. Their downward spiral knows no bounds. The answer will be given with the decisive vote and support of the KKE in the European elections on 9 June.
PS. Finally, we address a question to the Mayor since he invokes compliance with the law and talks about fines. Is it or is it not a breach of duty on his part not to convene a committee to allocate spaces for the parties» display?"
