There is no end to the revelations about the nursing home in Chania, with the police investigation expanding. As revealed by OPEN, the deaths that have come under the authorities« scrutiny now number more than 80, as some people who died in the last year and a half had not been reported.
«My dad was tied to the bed by his feet and hands and cried out all night, “Water, water, water!” and no one went to give him a bottle of water,» the daughter of a 70-year-old man said on OPEN's main news program. Her father had been in the nursing home for just two months. Her allegations are shocking: «My daughter found him with his head open, he had fallen, and they didn't even inform us. They told us they didn't know, maybe he bumped his head a little, we don't know, he bumped his head somewhere, it's nothing, while the man had his head open. And my daughter went and they put a bandage on him, when he needed stitches. We don't know how many days he was lying there with his head open.».
When the elderly man returned home, he was in poor condition. As his daughter says: «He was weak, he didn't speak, they tied him to his wheelchair. During the days he was at home, he would sometimes speak, his memory would return, and when I put him in the bath, he would say: “Don't throw cold water on me, like they do there. Don't throw cold water on me, like they do there. I don't want to get cold.”».
In recent days, evidence has been gathered from bank accounts, tax offices, the Social Security Fund (EFKA), and land registries, as property crimes are also being investigated. The nursing home's lawyers, however, insist that the allegations are unfounded and slanderous.
