The platform e–katanalotis, which was created to enable users to find the cheapest products in each supermarket chain throughout Greece, is being revamped with the arrival of the household basket, as a new application on the same platform will allow consumers to compare the prices of 51 selected products.
How will prices be compared?
In particular, according to Yiannis Doxaras, CEO of WARPLY, who spoke on OPEN TV, 20 supermarket chains participate in the platform e-consumer allowing citizens to search by product category or brand and find the cheapest price.
According to him, in the case of household basket the consumer will be able to access the application and click on each chain supermarket and view the products in the basket and their prices, while also being able to create their own basket by seeing which chain the entire list belongs to. cheaper.
As shown in the video above, each consumer will be able to view the products for each supermarket separately. «Can a super market put, for example, in flour one, two, or as many products as it wants, it is up to each company,» he said.
Consumers will also be able to type in a product (e.g., pasta) and compare prices at 20 supermarket chains or put whatever products they want in their own «basket» with as many products as they want and then compare the final amount to see what is best for them. There is no need to search for each product or each supermarket separately.
As shown on OPEN TV's «Open Communication» program, there will be a separate banner at the bottom of the app called «The Household Basket,» where consumers will be able to see all the chains and their products. This is a separate subcategory within the app.
It should be noted that each supermarket will be able to add its own products to the basket. Therefore, it is very important that citizens are able to search for the prices of each product at any time in any supermarket they wish.
The measure begins tomorrow.
Following the signing of the ministerial decision by the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, from tomorrow, Wednesday, November 2, the «household basket» measure will come into effect, which aims to keep prices for basic supermarket products at a certain level. However, the basket has come under fire from consumer associations, who say it is a «public relations» measure that will not particularly benefit consumers.
As provided for in the Ministerial Decision, pursuant to Article 87 of Law 4986/2022, food and other product hypermarket companies engaged in retail activities (supermarkets) with an annual turnover exceeding €90,000,000 per year, are required to send the Ministry of Development & Investment a list of consumer products («household basket») that are necessary for a decent standard of living and, in particular, at least one product from each of the following 51 product categories included in the «household basket».
