Vaccination of health workers in the hospitals of the city begins today ESY, which will take place in three phases. Today 42 new hospitals are being added to the 9 hospitals already carrying out vaccinations - a capacity that will allow more than 5,000 health vaccinations daily. On 8 January, 55 more hospitals will be added and by the 12th of this month, the supply will be completed in 19 hospitals located in the island country.
Military hospitals (currently 5) will gradually be added to the NHS hospitals, while vaccination of private sector health workers will also begin.
Also, today begins the vaccination of citizens living and working in nursing homes from the Mobile Health Teams (HMGs) of EODY. The vaccination of this group will be completed by 20 January.
The estimate, based on the participation registrations, is that more than 100,000 people will be vaccinated by 20 January.
As stated by Secretary General for Primary Health Care, Marios Themistocleous, «the gradual integration of hospitals into the vaccination programme ensures that the system is better prepared, both in terms of safe supply and training of staff in the digital tools used for the first time in the National Health System, and in all stages of vaccine management, from storage and distribution to vaccination».
After noting that the tactic of phasing in vaccinations is followed by many European countries, he stressed that vaccinations continue without interruption and based on the planning of the Operation «Freedom» as announced, announcing that 3,779 vaccinations had been carried out from 27 December until yesterday afternoon.
