The active Antikytherian Manolis Charhalakis of George passed away at noon on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the age of 68, spreading immense grief on the small island of Antikythera, by his sudden and unexpected death. The deceased had lived for many years in Australia where he worked in the catering industry, while in the mid-1980s he returned permanently to Antikythera, where he was appointed as an Agricultural Warden. After the abolition of the Rural Police he was transferred to the Kythera Forestry Department where he served for the last few years until his retirement.
He was for many years the Treasurer of the Ecclesiastical Committee of St. Myronos Antikythera as well as a priest's chanter on the small island. He was a very active man with a great social contribution, and had served for many years as a Community Councillor of Antikythera. He was married to Chrysoula Progoulakis and had 4 children: Eleni, George (President of the Community of Antikythera), Tasos and Nikos.
On Saturday 27 August he had suffered an ischemic stroke and was taken to the Hospital of Chania, where after complications, he died today 01 September.
