Andreas Samios: «Tourism is being developed by private individuals, the organization of the Municipality and institutions is missing»

As long as I live, I hope. As long as I hope, I learn. As I learn, I evolve. This could be the life motto of Andreas Samiou. And if it was not yet expressed as such in the one hour interview he gave to Kythera.News, certainly extracted as a distillation of philosophy and worldview.

A man who never gives up. This is Andreas Samios. He gives you the impression of a theorist of his science, but in reality, he is himself a project in progress. And in complete harmony with the environment and the demands of the times. A «warrior poet» of the tourism industry, fighting from the front where necessary and philosophising from afar when circumstances call for taking two steps backwards to better assess the situation. Until he returns to the front line.

A first line that translates into a season that has managed, over the years, to lengthen and which, now, spans a period of about six months, with the flagship «Host Houses» and fuelled by the ideas that are not lacking in private initiative, he says. On the contrary, he sees in the collective bodies and particularly in the Municipality, a reluctance that translates, over time, into a lack of organization in terms of promoting the tourist product of Kythera.

Andrew, a person who wants to constantly evolve while defining themselves through work, beneficial partnerships and adaptability in a multi-factorial environment. An environment that requires the enrichment of the tourist product with alternative activities that touch on adrenaline activities, hiking trails, religious sites and the traditions of a place that still has something to offer, precisely because it is aimed at people who do not usually «search» for holidays.

In the following video, Andreas Samios talks about his childhood in the Aloysians, his studies of psychology and the impact they had on his later career and his years as a tour guide in the Cave of Agia Sophia, «the most beautiful job I have ever done», as he says with nostalgia.
