Alkis Konstantinidis was awarded for photographing the war

Greek photojournalist Alkis Konstantinidis is among the 24 winners of this year's World Press Photo Contest, as his photograph «Yana and Victor» was selected from among more than 60,000 photographs submitted by 3,752 photographers from 127 countries.

As reported by World Press Photo website, Born in 1984, Alkis Konstantinidis continues to be based in Athens. Starting out as a freelancer in 2009, he began working with Reuters in 2014, covering the events of the deep economic crisis and then the huge refugee influx into Europe. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his teamwork on the refugee crisis in 2016 in Europe and in 2019 in Mexico. Among other things, he has covered the wars in Ukraine and Iran, the uprising in Egypt in 2011, the fires in Australia and Greece, the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, the food crisis in Madagascar, as well as the funeral of Elizabeth II and the Olympic Games in Rio and Tokyo.
