Obama, the philosopher. On the occasion of the release of his new autobiographical book «A Promised Land», the former President of the United States shared his playlist of his favorite sounds from his time as a tenant of the White House.
«Music has always played an important role throughout my life and that has been true during my presidency,» Barack Obama wrote in a post on Facebook along with a screenshot of the playlist.
Obama's 20-song list includes an eclectic range of different musical genres and eras, from Eminem's «Lose Yourself» to B.B. King's «The Thrill Is Gone» and Fleetwood Mac's «Rhiannon.».
In the same Facebook post, Obama described some of his meetings with the artists whose songs he included on the White House playlist. «While checking my notes before conversations, I would listen to Jay-Z's “My 1st Song” or Frank Sinatra's “Luck Be a Lady”. During our stay at the White House, Michelle and I invited artists like Stevie Wonder and Gloria Estefan to conduct afternoon seminars with young people before evening musical performances in the East Room, Barack Obama notes.
«And there were all kinds of performances that I'll remember forever - like the Beyoncé who performed “At Last” for our first dance at the inaugural ceremony, the Paul McCartney who serenaded Michelle in the East Room with “Michelle”... So, in honor of my book coming out tomorrow, I thought I'd create a playlist of some of these songs. I hope you enjoy it.».
