Seatrack in Palaeopolis at a standstill – Project funded by European resources is being devalued

The state of the system raises serious questions Seatrack at Paleopolis Beach, a project that was implemented with funding from the NSRF and, consequently, with European Union funds, but today remains in permanent immobility and substantial devaluation.

As Mr. N. Theofilou, a resident of Athens and Aroniadika, Kythira:

«The Seatrack in Palaiopolis is permanently out of service and falling into disrepair. The municipality needs to let us know why it’s so often out of service and what it plans to do about it. There are people who need it.».

The Seatrack is a system that enables people with mobility issues to have safe and dignified access to the sea. Its operation had been presented as a major breakthrough for the Accessibility to the beaches of Kythira, yet reality seems to contradict those expectations.

Η non-systematic operation this, combined with the lack of clear information from the Municipality regarding the its maintenance and utilization, raises legitimate questions about how projects funded by public and European funds are managed.

The issue takes on even greater significance, as it concerns citizens with disabilities and visitors who support the island’s tourism industry. Access to the sea is not a luxury, but fundamental right to equality.

Now, the onus is on the municipal government, which is called upon to provide clear answers:

  • Why isn't Seatrack operating normally?;
  • Who is responsible for its maintenance and operation?;
  • What measures will be taken to ensure that an investment funded by the EU and taxpayers is not completely wasted?;

The people of Kythira are awaiting an official statement and immediate action.
