A plane, a crash, and a mystery: Netflix's number one series

If you hear the title Keep Breathing in a row, You imagine that it will be basically terrifying, with constant tension, leaving you breathless, with an adrenaline rush. Even if it doesn't succeed, that will be its goal.

That is not the case with the series. Netflix which was released last Friday.

Having accepted that Netflix will give us a mixed bag, we started watching this series without any particular expectations. Simply because it was ranked first on Greek Netflix, we wanted to see if it was just a passing hype, as is always the case, or if it was the beginning of a hype that would last for many weeks.

Our final conclusion is that the hype probably won't last until the day after tomorrow. Keep Breathing is very monotonous, very predictable. Each episode is divided in half between a present-day survival story and the other half consisting of memories from the protagonist's life before the plane crash that kills a friend of hers and leaves her alone in a forest in Canada.

Trapped because she cannot cross the forest without risking death from bears and snakes, Liv must find a way to live in this small open area in front of the lake and devise ways to get it either by water or through the forest and whatever else may arise.

Although the overall story has something special about it, and is not as clichéd as most Netflix series, in practice Keep Breathing is nothing special in the end.

Okay, it's not as bad as it's described in reviews abroad, nor for 38% on Rotten Tomatoes. But it's not above 6/10 either, assuming you woke up in a good mood because it's summer and you're taking things less seriously.

The lead actress, Melissa Barrera, gives it her all, and there are moments when her performance convinces the viewer that it's worth giving the episode another five minutes, but it doesn't seem to be enough, despite a somewhat appealing finale with good elements for a series that aims to go into a second season.

However, if we had to give an interpretation, it would be the one we always give. Netflix is now that torn T-shirt you wore to school when you were 14, but now you're 28 and it doesn't fit you anymore, yet you keep it to wear to bed.
