On December 2, 2024, the ELME Piraeus made a statement at the Piraeus City Council regarding the serious issue of housing the Zanneio EPAL laboratories. Following the eviction of the workshops from the building at 8 Athinon Street, the students are forced to move to five different buildings and four laboratory centers across three municipalities, creating insurmountable difficulties.
The following people participated in the meeting: school representatives, parents, and students, while the The mayor of Piraeus made a commitment for the relocation of the laboratories to the adjacent building of the Zanneio Foundation, formerly the 13th General Lyceum of Piraeus. This positive development is attributed to the an organized and well-documented intervention by ELME, with the mayor committing to begin the relevant procedures immediately.
Ο Zanneio Vocational High School Teachers' Association expressed his gratitude to ELME for the her decisive action, which led to the unanimous support for the request by the City Council.
Meeting with the Deputy Regional Governor for Education on Student Commuting Issues
On 5 December 2024, the ELME Piraeus met with the Deputy Regional Governor for Education, Mr. Prezerakos to discuss issues related to student transportation. Participants included representatives from schools in the area and from the Schisto Refugee Center, as well as parents.
The main issues raised were:
- The suspension of bus routes from the Schisto Refugee Center to the schools: Ms. Prezerakou explained that the Tenders remain unsuccessful and the solution is being examined through leasing. However, even this method is uncertain before the holidays.
- The Integration of the Ralleios Junior High School and General Upper Secondary School into Supra-Local Schools: The ELME and parents called for free transportation for students, pointing out the unreasonable cost which places a financial burden on families (60 euros per month per child). The Deputy Regional Governor was positive but he mentioned difficulties due to the increased number of requests.
- Timely Issuance of Special Student Reports (EMD): ELME requested that the bulletins be published in the start of the school year, excluding this year's delays. Ms. Prezerakou proposed a temporary free transportation with a simple certificate of enrollment.
